Japadakatte - Abode of Lord Japeshwara
Japadakatte is a small village in Virajpet taluk Kodagu district of Karnataka state, an abode of Lord Japeshwara(a form of Shiva). This village is located about 205 kilometers from the state capital, Bangalore. It is surrounded by Piriyapatna Taluk towards North, Madikeri Taluk towards west, Hunsur Taluk towards East, Iritty Taluk towards west. The drive from Bangalore to the destination is via NH75 to Shettihalli and then on State Highway SH 8, SH102 and Halli Mysore - Keralapura Rd to Hebsur where the village is located. Yadathore Yogānandeshwara Saraswati Mutt is currently managing this institution.
We started our journey at around 9am from Dasarahalli area, Bangalore. The road condition close to the destination, that is last around 8 kilometers is narrow and bumpy. Having said that it is nice to view the green vegetation on either side of the road with marigold, rose flower cultivation and of course the villages, where farmers moving around using bullock carts, animals grazing on roadsides, paddy fields, kids play using toys made out of materials available around their surroundings, unlike the plastic toys that we see in cities :)
Well, it is not new to us but is adjusted to city life in the past few years, reminded the village life of our yesteryears :) As we travelled seeing the beauty of these villages, destination arrived at around 12 noon. The parking area is too small and it would be a chaos if many arrive at this place as space is limited. It's not a crowded place like many other visiting places as it is not so popular. We could move around in the calm atmosphere and understand the history of this location.
With reference to the history of this location, it is said that Jaabala Maharshi has performed meditation in this location and preached Shivapanchakshari Sthothram and beeja mantram to Lord Sriramachandra and Lakshmana en route to Lanka. It is said that Sriramachandra along with his brother Lakshmana performed meditation and pooja to the deity, Lord Japeshwara(Gangadhareshwara), main deity in shiva-linga form. Along with the main deity, we see others like Goddess Sharadamba, Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya, Stambha Ganapathi statues. Yajna Shale is present to perform holy rituals, pooja hall for performing special poojas, Guru Nivas the abode of His Holiness, two guest houses and two bhojana Shale for serving annadanam/food.
It is said that this temple was a desolated place until a few years ago and now it has been restored to its glory by Yadathore Yogānandeshwara Saraswati Mutt, K.R.Nagar. Saadhus who wants to achieve spiritual fulfillment does come here and live in this divine nature as all support is given to accomplish spiritual success (Saadhana). River Cauvery being predominantly flowing east flows southward at this place for close to a kilometer or two. Hence, this location is also named Dakshinaavartha.
If you are looking for a tranquil place to visit on your next road trip, be sure to visit this destination! As per the temple authorities, we have learned that, with prior appointments, the visitors who are coming from far of places are provided the accommodation facility. Hence, if you are looking for a place with positive vibes away from the disturbance of city life or bored of your mundane jobs, spend time in this calm place to relish yourself in this divine nature.
The parks in the front and sides of the temple add beauty to the location and a retreat to our eyes during the daytime. We could spend nearly an hour and a half in this temple area before heading towards other destinations planned, but was really a moment that would remain in our memory lanes forever. Below are some of my clicks for you.
