Chunchi Falls - Weekend Picnic Spot in the Middle of Lush Green Forest

This time our toes were on visiting Chunchi falls, a place where cascading water falls from a height of about 100 feet. This destination is located en route to Mekedatu and Sangama near Kanakapura. The location is about 85 kilometers from Bangalore city via Kanakapura-Dodda Alahalli. The roads to the destination are good, until the last 5 to 8 kilometers, where the village roads aren't maintained well. When we reached the location, had to pay a parking fee of rupees 30 for the car. In the parking area found 3 to 4 small shops selling water, chats and some fruits, except that nothing else is found. Hence, it is better to carry our own water and snacks.

From the parking area, we had to walk about 1.5 km on the hill to reach waterfalls. Found a small power station at the starting point, on the top of the hill. It is said that after the installation of this power plant, the amount of water had significantly reduced to Falls. As we walked about half a kilometer, came across a watch tower which gives a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the mountains all over, undoubtedly a sight to behold.

After spending some precious time on this watch tower, resumed our steps towards the endpoint, which is about a kilometer down. Walking on the hill with the grenaries around, cool breeze and our little one's curiosity to know what is around has really taken us down so fast that we didn't feel we had walked multiple meters to reach the end. Steps are not so easy at some points, especially for small kids or elderly people. Hence, precaution and care are what is to be kept in mind always. As you trek down, the serene beauty of nature provides a great background for photography.

Since we travelled in the month of August, a pleasant weather was on our side, a cloudy afternoon gave natural SPF on the lush green nature and a cool breeze was adding to hydrate ourself with less amount of water on the trip:) As we reached the falls, it was just amazing to hear the sounds of the waterfall that would make anyone forget all worries in the mind and feel relaxed on the lap of nature and an eye-catching naturally formed rocks added beauty to the location. It is a great place to relax and enjoy with family and friends. If you are adventurous, you may walk on the rocks around and get into the water for a dip and play. However, during the rainy season, it is not advised to walk on the rocks as it may be very slippery.

Luckily, on our day, we could find a person (Sorry.. forgot his name) who claimed to be the lifesaver (who rescued around 60 people from drowning in this point) helping the visitors in guiding the place where water undercurrents are less and safe to swim and play. It is also said that the place where water drops is very deep with waves and crocodiles in it. Therefore, visitors are not at all advised to swim. Having said that, anyone would love this natural landscape and prefer to soak oneself in the beauty of the surroundings at least for one or two hours, if not more.

Hence, if you are looking for a weekend trip, I would recommend this place as one of your next destinations. If you are visiting this place during the summer, please carry enough water and food to keep your body fit. The rocks on the falls may be too hot to walk around. Hence, reach the destination in the early mornings or evenings. Since the place is isolated with no people around, it is better to reach back up the hill before it is late evening for personal safety. Below are some of my clicks only for you :).
